Oatmeal Almond Body Scrub

Oatmeal Almond Body Scrub

It’s the first day of spring, but here on the prairies, winter seems to linger. And while winter drags on, it wreaks havoc on my sensitive skin. A moisturizing body scrub is the perfect remedy for winter dryness, but this is just one beauty product that I have a hard time splurging on. A good scrub is expensive, and when I have skin that’s prone to reacting to chemicals, it’s a daunting task to find something that’s in my budget, and isn’t going to to leave me itchy. And so this is how I ended up making my own – it only takes a few minutes to make, I can make small enough batches that there isn’t a lot of waste if something doesn’t work out, and I almost always have the basic ingredients in my pantry already. How easy is that?

Oatmeal Almond Body Scrub

This scrub is one of my personal favourites. My five year old daughter likes to call it “cookie scrub”, because it does smell a little like a fresh batch of oatmeal cookies. The oatmeal, almonds and sugar do a lovely job of gently exfoliating, and the honey and oil softens and moisturizes. I scrub myself down in a warm shower and rinse off without using soap, and it leaves my skin feeling smooth and rehydrated. Winter skin, be gone!

2/3 cup almonds {whole, slivers, slices, whatever you have}
2/3 cup oatmeal
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup coconut oil
2 Tbsp honey
1 tsp vanilla

In a food processor or small grinder {like a coffee grinder}, grind almonds and oatmeal. Mix with remaining ingredients in a bowl. Store in a jar with a tight fitting lid, and use to moisturize and exfoliate in a warm shower.
